The Great Grandfather Clock Adventure, Part II!
Ahhhh … the Grandfather Clock is finished!
I actually completed her (yes, this grandfather clock prefers she/her pronouns) last week. But she was awaiting my time and attention to remove all the protective paper and tape from her glass — 3 windows in the case, inside and out, a window on the face, inside and out, as well as on her face, itself. Whew! Enough tape to fill a small trash can!
Here’s how she appeared, prior to the tape-removal.
And yes, this is the glamorous abode of a working artist. Some folks would call this a “living room” — and I used to, before I had to transform it into a temporary art-studio, complete with a tarp taped to the floor, and plastic draping the furniture.
You’ll see unfolded laundry on the Freudian sofa, behind the clock, some unpainted items here and there, and if you look real close, you’ll see the oh-so-glamorous reflection of me, in the mirror to the left.
Yes, I previously painted both mirrors, and the lamp in the right corner — I keep what I fall in love with. 😉
And here’s the final, transformed Grandfather Clock, in all of her artistic glory!
I have her here on my front porch, in the direct late-afternoon sunlight, so her colors appear brighter than the rich tones she exudes indoors. But I had to move her out of “the world’s tiniest foyer,” in order to bring a Victorian glider down the stairs, and outdoors, so that I could spray paint the mechanical underparts antique copper. We all deserve to have shiny underparts.
I’ve been a busy-busy girl — since completing this clock, I’ve painted both a (second) chess table, and a jewelry armoire in my “Shades of Grey” theme, and I’ve begun painting a tilt-top table, the glider, and a pair of lamps — I’ll share about those in another blog post.
ALL of this frenetic panting-frenzy is in preparation for my upcoming solo art show, “Everything Old is New Again,” for the entire month of March, at the fabulous Lunaria Gallery, 113 Water St., Silverton, Oregon.
YOU are invited to the grand opening, Friday, March 4th, from 7:00-9:00 pm!
